Temple UII will Surprise Archaeologist again

The process of excavation Kimpulan temple complex discovered in the Indonesian Islamic University campus, Sleman, Yogyakarta, return to reveal new facts. Archaeologists from the Archaeological Heritage Preservation Hall Yogyakarta find-yoni phallus statue in the chapel (companion), Tuesday (12/1/2010).

This surprised the archaeologists because of unusual yoni phallus-in chapel, but only in the main temple. "Nothing like this has ever been found in other temples," said Budi Sancoyo, one of the archaeologists in charge of Yogyakarta BP3 in the excavation.

Linga-Yoni in chapel measuring 4 x 6 meters was standing parallel with two pedestal (rock god), the statue of Nandi (cow), and a stone well-sized 80 x 80 cm by 40 cm depth as found previously.

The well itself is also unique because it is not commonly found in the temple and has no known function. The phallus-yoni previously been found with the statue of Ganesha in the main temple is measuring 6 x 6 meters.

"We can not conclude the meaning of the findings-yoni phallus and the existing wells in this chapel because they have to dig up other references," said Budi.

Previously, the temple is unique because Kimpulan also stated that the building structure is a combination of stone and wood. Arca found also to have different designs with the designs of Ganesha in other temples.
