Road Construction Make Muaro Jambi Temple Damaged

Road construction district in Jambi Muaro temple complex, Muaro Jambi, Jambi, paused on Thursday (22 / 7). The development is known to damage the structure menappo or piles of stones in the temple complex.

On Thursday the Head of the Jambi Provincial Culture and Tourism Didy Wurjanto met with a number of officers within the Government of Jambi and Muaro 0415 Military District Commander Lt. Col. Batanghari Aufit Chaniago. After discussing this issue, all parties agreed to stop building roads.

District 6-meter wide road was built almost 1 kilometer from the temple complex Astano to the main site. The road is Muaro Jambi Regency project carried out by military personnel through the project work of TNI.

Didy Wurjanto said it only learned that the construction of road damage menappo after there were reports from the public. One menappo eroded by heavy equipment. "We immediately checked the location and they did," said Didy.

Construction of roads hampered the Law No. 5 / 1992 on Objects of Cultural Property. "Development through cultural sites must get a recommendation from the local Archaeological Heritage Preservation Hall," he said.

Construction of roads, said Didy, very troubling. The reason, the site Muaro Jambi is one of six objects proposed by the government to enter into the world heritage by UNESCO. "If the world knew that there menappo damaged by road construction, the temple site Muaro Jambi could get smaller," said Didy.

Muaro Jambi temple complex is located about 40 kilometers from the city of Jambi. In it there are more than 80 temple ruins and remains of ancient settlements. By the local community, the remnants of the ruins of the temple was called menappo.

Many menappo already identified as the ruins of the temple located in the community owned land used as a vegetable garden or orchard duku and durian. However, people working for their activities on land located menappo not damage the site's history.
